Oakwood4H.O.P.E
July 12th - 13th 2013
For the past three months, the small group of volunteers here at Oakwood4HOPE selflessly donated their time and energy for meetings, phone calls, and generating auction items.
My job for the event consisted of helping with the Celebrity Check In at the Meet & Greet in the Del Mar Powerhouse, selling raffle tickets for the 50/50 & Imac Computer, and working the VIP Registration table where we informed them of all that was yet to come for the Tournament and kindly directed them on where they needed to go.
Not only were there many things I had to do the day of the event, but there also was some behind the scene tasks that the group of volunteers had to perform. During the months of preparation, I gained a lot of experience. I was trying to sell a group of foursomes to play at the Celebrity Golf Glassic and dealt with the vertical market. I learned that people are sometimes really hard to deal with & sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to
make changes. I became one of those solicitors that I despised.. I had to talk to businesses on the phone in hopes of recieving gift cards, donation items, pretty much anything I could get a hold of. Being the youngest volunteer there, I definitely felt out of place at first and a tad intimidated. But we must move past all of that to really LIVE in this world. One of my favorite things to do in life is to gain more experiences. And that is what I did.
